One real conversation, annotated — so the orb stops being a mystery.
Reading the orb
| Orb | Meaning |
|---|---|
| Dim, slow pulse | Booting — the backend is loading her models |
| Gentle breathing | Idle — ready and listening for you |
| Expanding rings | Hearing you speak |
| Spinning shimmer | Thinking — your words are with the LLM |
| Pulsing with sound, tinted | Speaking — the color reflects her emotion |
The tint is real: a classifier reads the tone of her reply and colors the orb to match.
A first exchange, annotated
You: "Hey Yumii, how are you?"
The moment you stop talking, local voice detection closes your utterance and sends it to speech-to-text. Your words go to the LLM with her personality, today's date, and everything she remembers about you. Her reply streams to the voice engine sentence-by-sentence — she starts speaking in about a second.
You (mid-sentence): "Actually — wait."
She stops immediately. This is barge-in: the mic stays live while she speaks, and your voice interrupts hers, like a human conversation.
You: "Remember that my sister's birthday is next month."
She saves it on the spot — "remember this" triggers her own memory tool. Every stored fact is visible and editable in the dashboard.
You: "What's on the web about the weather tomorrow?"
She reaches for web search — and a prompt appears: "Allow Yumii to search the web?" Nothing happens until you click Approve. That gate is the core of tools.
Mic etiquette
- Speak naturally — no wake word, no push-to-talk.
- Pauses end your turn. A moment of silence closes your utterance; keep the thought flowing, or just continue — interrupting her works fine.
- A quiet-ish room helps. Fans and hums are filtered; a loud TV with voices can trigger her. Headphones make barge-in crispest.
When something looks stuck
| Symptom | Cause → fix |
|---|---|
| "Waking Yumii up…" for over a minute | Backend didn't start → Troubleshooting |
| An error card appears | It names the cause — bad key, rate limit, or network — and what to do |
| She mishears repeatedly | Switch STT to Groq Whisper in Providers → STT |
